WHAT CAN BE DONE AFTER HAIR TRANSPLANTATION TO ACHIEVE A NATURAL LOOK? WHAT IS HAIR SIMULATION?
The purpose of this article is to provide information on how to camouflage a sparse-looking result that may occur after hair transplantation and what to look for when choosing the right application to achieve this.
A person with healthy, non-shedding hair has around 150-200 thousand hairs on their head. Now imagine someone who has lost most of the hair on the top of their head and some hair from the back due to male pattern baldness. If we assume they have lost about one-third of their hair, the number of lost hairs would be around 50,000 to 65,000, right? Let’s be optimistic and say they have lost 35,000 hairs. Can current hair transplant technology remedy this?
The latest method in hair transplantation is the FUE technique, where hair follicles are taken from the back of the head, near the nape, and transplanted to the bald or sparse area. If too much hair is taken from this area, the nape becomes bald and visible gaps appear. Let’s assume that an average of 3,000 to 3,500 hairs are taken and transplanted, which can sometimes be difficult to achieve (there may not be enough hair in the donor area). You would be trying to fill the area opened up by the loss of 35,000 hairs with 3,500 hairs.
So, how can the gaps in the donor area and the sparse appearance on the crown be addressed after the hair transplant procedure?
Hair simulation comes into play when we look for the answer to this question. The hair simulation procedure is performed by an experienced practitioner who specializes in this field, using special dyes (we call these pigments, and they are not yet produced in Turkey) and a special device to create a hair effect in the form of dots on the epidermal layer of the scalp. After this procedure, the light color on our scalp will be camouflaged by the color of the hair itself, making the hair appear thicker. It is widely used around the world, especially in Europe and America, either after hair transplantation or without any hair transplantation.
The dye used must be organic. Dyes are divided into two types: organic and inorganic. Inorganic dyes are permanent but have some disadvantages. Inorganic dyes are generally used by tattoo artists and contain heavy metals such as iron oxide, which means they cannot be eliminated from the body and may change color when applied to the scalp due to UV rays and metabolic reasons. Organic dyes remain on the skin for about 3-4 years and fade away at the end of this period. There is no color change; they simply fade and lose their contrast at the end of their lifespan. When they fade, you can refresh them if you wish, or you can choose not to have them redone if you no longer want them. It is very important to choose the right person to perform hair simulation. You should see their permanent makeup mastery certificate, which is an authorization document related to the subject, and look at pictures of their previous work. Unfortunately, if you try to have it done in places that we would call “back-alley,” you may encounter poor results. Approximately 70% of our customers have had hair transplants before, and we are getting positive results. If you have any doubts about getting a hair transplant due to the possibility of a sparse appearance afterward, I hope I have been able to inform you a little about this topic. Know that there is a solution and get your hair transplanted with peace of mind, even if the number of donor hairs is low.
